Removable Partial and Complete Dentures

Acrylic Dentures

Acrylic dentures can be either removable or fixed and may involve the use of implants or not. They can be categorized into two main groups: complete prostheses and partial prostheses.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are designed to replace all the teeth in an arch with artificial acrylic teeth and gum tissue. They are intended for patients who have lost all their teeth for various reasons. When it comes to removable complete prostheses, commonly referred to as "dentures," it is crucial to have custom-fitted pieces. This is because their retention depends on the gums, the remaining bony ridge, and the palate (for the upper jaw), which they rely on to create a secure fit.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures, often known as "partials," are used to replace one or more missing teeth in an arch with artificial acrylic teeth and gum tissue mounted on a metal framework. Removable partial prostheses achieve retention more easily thanks to the presence of remaining natural teeth to which clasps can attach.
