Implants and Implant Restorations
Implant
A dental implant is an artificial root, often resembling a screw made of titanium, surgically placed into the alveolar bone to serve as a replacement for a missing tooth. Once the implants have successfully integrated with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration, they become capable of supporting various types of fixed dental prostheses (such as crowns and bridges that are either attached by screws or cemented onto the implants) or removable prostheses (including partial or complete dentures).
Implant Restoration
The term "implant restoration" encompasses different types of dental restorations, which can involve either crowns and bridges that are secured by cementing or screwing them onto the implants, or removable prostheses held in place by attachments. An impression of the implant is taken and forwarded to the dental laboratory to fabricate the implant restoration.
